Open Gate set for Dunkirk on April 27

Open Gate will be held at Dunkirk Community Center, 152 N. Main St. from 11 am until 1 pm on Thursday, April 27. Open Gate is a collaboration of service providers that are able to offer immediate response and referrals for life needs, such as employment, housing, childcare, physical and mental healthcare. Open Gate is held monthly by the mental health and recovery board of Allen, Auglaize, and Hardin counties.

Paper wins award

A paper presented by Ohio Northern University student Alexander Klouvas, a junior accounting major from Fort Wayne, Ind., and Dexter Woods, professor of business administration, won the award for the outstanding paper published in the proceedings of the Midwest Academy of Legal Studies in Business as part of its recent annual conference in Chicago. The paper was titled “Me-Too Evidence in Age Discrimination in Employment Cases: The Progeny of Sprint v. Mendelsohn.”

New residence hall named for Deviers

A new $6.5 million residence hall at Glen Oakes Community College has been named in honor of former Ada residents David H. and Patricia A. Devier. Dr. Devier, who taught at ONU for 15 years, is now president of Glen Oakes in Centreville, Mich. He also writes an occasional column for the Ada Icon about ONU/Ada memorabilia that the couple has collected over the years.

The residence hall is scheduled for completion in August. The three-story, 108-bed, student housing project plans include two- and four-suite units that share kitchen and living areas and two bathrooms.

ONU Polar Robotics team competes

The ONU Polar Robotics team participated in the Xtreme BOTS competition in Dayton on Saturday, making it to the round of 16 and winning $1,000 for best documentation.

Baldwin Wallace wins in men's tennis

BEREA — Sophomore David Hayman(Westerville/South) won at No. 2 singles to lead the Ohio Northern men's tennis team in an 8-1 loss at Baldwin Wallace on Tuesday at the Pop Collins Tennis Courts.

The Polar Bears fall to 10-8 overall and are 2-4 in the Ohio Athletic Conference and the Yellow Jackets improve to 15-2, 5-1.

Softball splits with Baldwin Wallace

ADA -- Freshman Gabby Stewart (Union, Ky./St. Henry) drilled the first two home runs of her collegiate career to lead Ohio Northern to an Ohio Athletic Conference softball split with Baldwin Wallace on Tuesday afternoon at the ONU Softball Field.

The Polar Bears (23-9 overall, 9-5 OAC) won the nightcap 8-0 after the Yellow Jackets (11-18-1, 4-9-1) won the opener 2-0.
