Deb Curlis, Richard Gainey, Jane Helser judge the 20 desserts at the Ada Public Library on Friday. The Ada Public Library third annual Valentines Chocolate Bake-Off at the Ada Public Library was a grand success with 20 entries and more than 50 tasters enjoying scrumptious desserts. Young bakers showed their cooking ability. Two fifth graders from the Ada Schools took first and second place: Paige Jochims, first, with chocolate peanut butter dessert, and Sandra Litton, second, with chocolate strawberry pie.

Dr. Mark Shull, D.D.S., opened his dental practice in Ada 52 years ago and continues to work fulltime.

Why did you select Ada for your practice?
I grew up in a small town, Hicksville, so looked for a small college town. Ada has been a wonderful town for me and my family. My wife Julie and I have three grown children who continue to live in Ohio. Our daughter Lorraine lives in Bowling Green while Sherry and Stephanie live in Columbus. Ada has been a great place to raise a family. Julie taught kindergarten for 30 years.

ReStore now collection point for dog and cat food donations

For those who have a heart to help people keep their pets in their homes, there is now a location in Ada where dog and cat food can be donated.

ReStore Community Center at 210 N. Main will help the Hardin County Humane Society by being a collection point for persons desiring to help dogs and cats stay with their owners.

Sometimes people have to give up their beloved pets because they can no longer afford to feed them, although they have had their pet for many years and the pet has become a part of the family. The Society also distributes donated pet food to people who foster cats and dogs.

Gail Allen was stock clerk in ONU's central receiving department

Gail L. Allen, 67, died Thursday, Feb. 12, 2015 at 6:40 p.m. at his residence, in Harrod, Ohio.

He was born on Dec. 4, 1947, in Lima, Ohio, to Evelyn “Evey” M. (Cox) Coulter and she survives in Cridersville, Ohio; his stepfather, Charles “Chuck” Coulter is deceased. On Oct. 24, 1970, he married Wendy J. Push and she survives in Harrod.

University awarded 2015 special recognition in entrepreneurship education innovation

Ohio Northern University was awarded the 2015 Special Recognition in Entrepreneurship Education Innovation Award as part of United States Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship (USASBE) Excellence in Entrepreneurship Education Innovation Awards at the USASBE National Conference held in Tampa, Fla., from Jan. 22-25.

Each year, the award is given to up to three individuals or their respective institutions for innovation in entrepreneurship education at one or a combination of these levels: teaching, scholarship and outreach. ONU competed against Monmouth University and University of Texas Dallas.
