Go fish!

Ada Public Library invites Icon viewers to pop in and say hello to the library's new crowntail beta fish, Ollie. You'll discover that Ollie is named after Oliver Queen, from the DC Comic: Green Arrow. According to Amanda Bennett of the library, "We were sad to see Holden go (the previous fish in the library), but he was adamant about going to Alaska to see the Iditarod Race in March."

Author-illustrator visits Ada school March 24

If your child knows of the books “Oh, Ducky!: A Chocolate Calamity,” “Moishe’s Miracle,” or better yet “I Loathe You,” then everyone is in for a treat.

David Slonim, author-book illustrator involved in those three titles will be in Ada schools in March. His Ada visit is on Tuesday, March 24.

During the week of his visit will be the spring book fair in the school media center. More details on the sale and Slonim’s visit will come later.

In case you wonder, “I Loathe You” tells the story of a monster who is afraid his parents will stop “loathing” him.

As the word gets around Ada Icon continues to grow with viewers and advertisers

By Monty Siekerman

I am impressed with the reach and effectiveness of the Ada Icon. An online newspaper has many advantages over print media. Having spent most of my career in journalism, I see the great possibilities the new technology has.

In just over a year's time, the Ada Icon has provided the community with immediate news, such as weather alerts, school closings and road conditions.

Beyond immediacy, the Icon has the ability to provide more coverage of local events because it is not limited by space, which in newspapers is determine by the amount of ads sold.
